Adoption center celebrates National Adoption Month

November is national adoption month, and one local adoption service center is using it as a platform to encourage adoptions and let adopted families know that help is available if they need it. According to the Pennsylvania State Resource Family Association, 14,000 kids are in the foster care system in the state. COBYS Family Services in Leola, Lancaster County provides foster and adoptive services, including education and counseling. The organization says the key to success for adopted families is support.

“We definitely want families to know that they’re not in this on their own,” said Jen McDowell, an adoption supervisor. “We want them to know that there’s lots of people who will be supporting them and that’s a big part of what we do at COBYS.”

COBYS holds informational sessions for people looking to adopt periodically. The next one is scheduled for December 6th.
